Day 2/3

Today was a loonnng day, it's 5:26 pm Michigan time, and about 11:30pm here in Rome. Everyone's back at their rooms ready to fall asleep. Today was a full day of walking. We started out at 10am this morning heading to a museum. The museum was one which showed the history of Rome, from aneas (who we had to read about prior to the trip) to Christian empire. It was really niffty with a lot of model replicas of buildings, sculptures, and busts/heads of people. There was also a giant model of ancient Rome, w
Which had to be viewed from the 2nd floor looking down. My favorite room was the one showing information about the christianity movement. After the museum took both subway and bus to the spot that saint Paul was beheaded.in case you were wondering, since Paul was a roman citizen, he was not allowed to be crucified by the Romans, so instead he was beheaded. At this time in the day. Around 1pm. The church that had the stone he was beheaded on wasn't open, so we found a little place, similar to a roof garden maybe? Where we ate lunch. I ended up drinking bubbly water bc the lady brought a bunch out and no one else had had or couldn't handle it. Then we all ate a sandwich with either ham or some other meat on it. Interesting it was.but filling because we were starving. After a potty break in the no toilet paper or paper towel public bathroom. We went back to see the spot of saint pauls beheading, (around 3) there was an actual church service going on. But we were still able to get in and take a few pictures, we also went into the church where a friar, I can't remember the name, had a vision of a stairway to heaven, hence why a church was built around it. This also had the spot Paul was held prisoner, we believe. From here we went to saint Paul's balistica. Which is a giant church huge! Cathedral like that saint Paul is buried at. The church was huge and beautiful, with plenty of gold and artwork. It had pictures of the various Saints and of the past popes. It is said that when there is no more room for the popes pictures, then the world will be coming to an end. This church was rebuilt after a fire destroyed the origin. Although we did see pillars from the original, and the foundation, also noticed was the chains Paul wore and the edge of the sarcofogus (sp?)which he is buried. My favorite part from here, or one of two, was seeing the chapel that the. Church had dedicated to saint Lawrence. Although this one had a bar across the door so I couldn't enter, it was still really cool. My other favorite part was this almost perfect sculpture that was dug up from the original church tHat had various images from the bible depicted on it. After the church. We continued walking around until we found a grocery store, here we bought food to fill up our apartment. But we bought tOo much, because then we had To carry it and hold it in the pouring rain at this moment and long walk back to apartment. It was a relief to be off our feet and out of our wet clothes for a little while. This was 7pm. At 7:30, we were treated to supper by our host ladies, we ordered pasta. We saw someone else's order and asked the lady for that, but she came out with something totally different, which was. Not good. At all. I at least ate half of it, while the other girl who ordered it flat out didn't touch it. We also got dessert of gilato (sp?) kinda like ice cream dish thingy. Really good. Then the restaurant owner gave us a bottle of wine, on here if I'm. Not mistaken, so I had my first Italian wine and it was delicious. After a short walk to our apartment, we just hanged out and talked until we decided we wanted to go walking the streets again. So a few of us saw Italy not on a Saturday night and also raining, yet it was still busy. Now I'm exhausted and need to sleep. Tomorrow is orientation for our class and other info. Talk to you tomorrow!
The pictures I've shown to attach.fourth is me next to a bust of Julius Caesar at the museum . 6th is a replica of the good Shepard.the seventh is the sign before heading to place of Paul's death. The beheading stone is 3rd. Saint Paul's bascilia is shown next at number 5. you cannot receive the grandness from this one picture.the chapel of saint lawrence is number 1&. 10. the 8th image shows the chain, the spot of his tomb, and the original framework for the first church.my favorite sculpture is number 2.then is me out in town at night. Number 9.my iPad has an issue with picture number, and direction. Very sorry about that, excusi und gracia or something like that!
